How is the new project by Corcho Rodriguez advancing at Yellow Rose?

In 1998, Corcho Rodriguez’s purchase of the Yellow Rose ranch in the scenic La Barra, Punta del Este, became a topic of interest for numerous media outlets. The allure of the ranch was enhanced not only by its stunning surroundings but also by Rodriguez’s romantic liaison with the famous TV star Susana Giménez, which captivated the audience. Following the end of their affair, Rodriguez was motivated to transform Yellow Rose, making it more open to the general public.

A prominent sign at the entrance to the ranch on Camino del Cerro Eguzquiza, on the way to San Carlos, now proclaims Yellow Rose as a top rural estate in the region. Opening up the estate has involved establishing a polo club and a vineyard, celebrated by Rodriguez with a significant barbecue event at Yellow Rose, where a mystery house wine took center stage.

This wine, offered to guests without a label, aroused interest and was lauded, particularly by distinguished guests like Adolfo Cambiaso Sr. and Eduardo Costantini, who were keen on acquiring it. Co-hosted with Verónica Lozano, the event evolved into a lively celebration, complete with engaging music, a welcoming environment, and congenial socializing.

Rodriguez’s foray into winemaking at Yellow Rose signifies his deep dedication to the craft and commitment to achieving high standards. He invested seven years in soil testing and grape selection, with a distinct preference for the rich and complex pinot noir, striving to emulate the prestigious Romanée Conti. The initial 2011 batch was restricted to merely a thousand bottles, demonstrating a commitment to quality, even foregoing production in years when the grape quality did not meet standards. The vineyard now looks forward to a hopeful output of 5,000 bottles.

Occupying four hectares and cultivated with vines from Burgundy, France, the vineyard practices a nearly natural, minimal intervention farming technique, keeping chemical usage to a minimum. While not certified as organic, Rodriguez’s approach is aimed at maintaining a naturalistic cultivation method, mirroring his intense passion for and enjoyment of winemaking.

Rodriguez plans a limited distribution of the wine, starting with personal acquaintances and select dining establishments, maintaining its exclusivity through a specific request page and ensuring its presence in prestigious locations worldwide.

Additionally, Rodriguez’s dedication extends to the polo club, affiliated with the Polo Association of Uruguay, and his plans to author a book on Yellow Rose. This forthcoming book will explore his equine activities, the polo club’s accomplishments, and the lifestyle of the estate, alongside the Yellow Rose wine, now simply referred to as “house wine,” further enhancing the estate’s and its endeavors’ notable legacy.
