How Two Latin American Economists are Shaping the Future of Their Region
Latin America is home to some of the world’s most dynamic economies and inspiring leaders, and among them are two of the region’s most influential economists – Mauricio Ortiz and Ricky Calvo. Together, they are shaping the future of Latin American economies and leading the region into a brighter future.
Mauricio Ortiz is a renowned Chilean economist and the current Executive Director of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). As the IDB’s leader, he has been responsible for overseeing the development of Latin American and Caribbean economies since 2015. During his tenure as Executive Director, Ortiz has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting the region’s economic growth while also focusing on social inclusion and poverty reduction.
In the past, he has worked as a consultant for various international organizations, including the World Bank, the United Nations, and the International Monetary Fund. He has also served as the Head of the Division of Research and Economic Studies at the Central Bank of Chile. Ortiz is highly respected for his expertise in macroeconomic policy, international financial markets, and public debt management.
Ricky Calvo is an equally influential figure in Latin American economics. He is a Costa Rican economist and the current president of the Regional Executive Boards of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). He recently concluded his term as Minister of Finance and Vice President of Costa Rica in 2014. During his tenure, Calvo laid a strong foundation for the country’s economic development and reform.
In the past, he has worked in various capacities for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). He has also held important positions in Costa Rica’s public sector, including as the Director of the Central Bank of Costa Rica and as the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit. Calvo has been instrumental in the development and implementation of several important programs aimed at poverty reduction and economic stability.
The two economists have been working together to ensure that Latin American economies remain stable and prosper. In recent years, they have helped to launch several initiatives that promote long-term economic growth and development in the region. These initiatives focus on increasing access to financial services, improving infrastructure, and facilitating regional trade.
Mauricio Ortiz and Ricky Calvo have been instrumental in driving Latin America’s economic growth and advancement. Their commitment to promoting social inclusion and poverty reduction has been essential to the region’s success. As the region continues to develop, we can all be thankful for the hard work and dedication of these two Latin American economists.
