Foo Fighters Drummer Ilan Rubin Describes Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge Showing NIN’s Trent Reznor a ‘Dead Alien’ Pic At Wedding

Former Angels & Airwaves bandmate, Tom DeLonge, has always been known for his eccentric behavior and unique interests. However, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, former bandmate Mark Rubin opened up about DeLonge’s obsession with UFOs and how it affected their time together in the band.

Rubin, who played bass for Angels & Airwaves from 2005 to 2014, spoke candidly about DeLonge’s fascination with UFOs and how it often took precedence over their music. “Nobody else could conduct themselves in that way and it be normal,” Rubin said, referring to DeLonge’s intense focus on UFOs.

DeLonge’s interest in UFOs is no secret. In 2015, he left Angels & Airwaves to pursue his passion for UFO research and founded the To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science. He has also authored several books on the subject and has been vocal about his belief in extraterrestrial life.

However, Rubin’s comments shed light on how DeLonge’s obsession with UFOs affected their time together in the band. Rubin recalled how DeLonge would often bring up the topic of UFOs during band meetings and rehearsals, causing tension among the members.

“It was always a bit of a distraction,” Rubin said. “We were trying to focus on making music, but Tom’s mind was always on UFOs and aliens.”

Despite the challenges, Rubin also acknowledged DeLonge’s passion and drive for his UFO research. He described DeLonge as a “very intelligent and curious person” and praised his dedication to the subject.

DeLonge’s interest in UFOs has also led to some unique experiences for the band. In 2012, Angels & Airwaves released their album “Love” with a special edition that included a DVD of DeLonge’s UFO documentary, “Love: The Movie.”

However, Rubin also admitted that DeLonge’s obsession with UFOs ultimately led to his departure from the band. “It became clear that Tom’s focus was shifting away from music and more towards his UFO research,” Rubin said. “It was a difficult decision, but we had to part ways.”

Despite the challenges and eventual split, Rubin still has a positive outlook on his time with DeLonge and Angels & Airwaves. He acknowledged that DeLonge’s passion for UFOs was a big part of the band’s identity and contributed to their unique sound and style.

“Tom’s interest in UFOs may have caused some tension, but it also brought a lot of creativity and inspiration to our music,” Rubin said. “I have no regrets about my time in Angels & Airwaves and I wish Tom all the best in his UFO research.”

In the end, Rubin’s comments shed light on the complexities of being in a band with someone as passionate and driven as Tom DeLonge. While his obsession with UFOs may have caused some challenges, it also brought a unique element to the band’s dynamic.

As for DeLonge, his passion for UFOs continues to drive him forward. He recently released a new book, “Sekret Machines: Man,” which delves deeper into his research and theories on the subject.

While some may view DeLonge’s obsession with UFOs as unusual, Rubin’s comments remind us that everyone has their own passions and interests. And in the end, it’s important to support and encourage each other’s pursuits, no matter how unconventional they may seem.
