Today, the official installation of the negotiation table for the new concession contract with Minera Panamá took place.
The Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, who leads the negotiating team appointed by the President of the Republic, emphasized that these sessions will address various topics related to economic, fiscal, environmental, labor, and social aspects, aiming to ensure that the operation of the mine complies with international best practices standards.
Martínez warned that if an agreement is not reached on the proposed terms, they will seek to negotiate with another company. According to the Minister, they will not continue under the “current conditions.”
On the other hand, Minera Panamá expressed in a statement their confidence that this process will be candid, robust, thorough, and transparent for the benefit of the country. They also hope that the best interests of the State and the company’s acquired rights will be respected, seeking the best results for Panama.
In this regard, Manuel Aizpurúa, spokesperson and member of the company’s negotiating team, emphasized the importance of having the negotiation table as a respectful space for private capital investment and legal security, with the aim of achieving a beneficial outcome for all parties involved and for the country.
