Breaking Barriers – Charlotte Cardin interviewed by Tara Slone | Billboard Summit at NXNE

Join Billboard Canada Woman of the Year (2024) and Billboard Canada’s Global Woman of the Year (2025) Charlotte Cardin in an intimate conversation with Tara Slone about breaking barriers in the music industry. From her early days on La Voix, to representing Canada as a bilingual artist on the global stage, Charlotte opens up about her journey and the challenges she faced along the way.

Charlotte Cardin is undoubtedly one of Canada’s most promising and talented musicians, known for her soulful voice and powerful lyrics. With a career that started at the young age of 11, when she began singing and playing the piano, Charlotte has come a long way and has achieved remarkable success in the music industry.

However, her journey has not been without its fair share of obstacles. In her conversation with Tara Slone, Charlotte opens up about the challenges she faced as a young artist trying to break into the music scene. She recalls the countless rejections she faced and how it sometimes made her doubt her talent and abilities. But she never let these setbacks defeat her. In fact, they only fueled her determination to succeed.

“I’ve always been told that the music industry is tough, but I never realized just how tough it could be. Being rejected time and time again can really take a toll on your self-confidence. But I always knew deep down that I had something special to offer, and I refused to give up,” says Charlotte.

And her perseverance paid off when she auditioned for La Voix, a popular singing competition in Quebec. This was a turning point in her career as it gave her the platform to showcase her talent to a wider audience. Despite not winning the competition, Charlotte gained a loyal fan base and caught the attention of music industry professionals.

But even after the exposure she received from La Voix, Charlotte faced another hurdle – being a bilingual artist. As a French-Canadian, Charlotte was determined to represent her culture and language in the English-dominated music industry. However, she faced skepticism and criticism for singing in both French and English.

“People told me I needed to choose one language and stick to it if I wanted to be successful. But I couldn’t do that. Both languages are a part of who I am and I wanted to represent that. It was a risk, but I’m glad I took it,” says Charlotte.

And her risk paid off. Charlotte’s unique blend of French and English music has resonated with audiences worldwide. She has performed at major music festivals and collaborated with renowned artists, solidifying her position as a rising star in the music industry.

Her success has not gone unnoticed, as she has been honored with the prestigious Billboard Canada Woman of the Year and Billboard Canada’s Global Woman of the Year award. These accolades recognize her impact and influence in the music industry, breaking barriers and paving the way for other bilingual artists.

“I’m incredibly grateful and humbled to receive these awards. I hope it sends a message to other artists that it’s possible to stay true to yourself and break barriers in the industry. I want to use my platform to inspire others to follow their dreams and never give up,” says Charlotte.

As we look forward to what the future holds for this talented artist, Charlotte leaves us with some words of wisdom for aspiring musicians.

“Believe in yourself and never let anyone dim your light. The music industry can be tough, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Keep pushing forward and never give up on your dreams. And remember, always be true to yourself and the rest will follow.”

With her soulful music, captivating performances, and determination to break barriers, Charlotte Cardin is a true inspiration in the music industry. As we anticipate her future ventures, let us continue to support and celebrate talented women like her who are making their mark in the world of music.
