MUNICIPALITIES OF CATCHIUNGO AND CHINGUAR CONNECTED TO THE NATIONAL ELECTRIC GRID
The Ministry of Energy and Water will inaugurate, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, the electrified networks of the municipalities of Catchiungo, in the province of Huambo, and Chinguar, in Bié, which will now be interconnected with the National Electric Grid.
To connect the networks of the two municipalities, a 220/30 kV Substation with an installed capacity of 20 MVA was built, and 30 kilometers of medium voltage distribution network cables were laid from January to December this year.
As part of the project, 15 Transformer Stations (TSs) with capacities ranging from 160 to 30/0.4 kVA were installed, 29 kilometers of low voltage distribution network cables were laid, 600 new public lighting points were added, and 1,600 new household connections were made.
The project, which is part of the energy transition framework, will save the State approximately 380,000,000 Kwanzas annually, including 270 million for the purchase of 1,550,000 liters of fossil fuel and 110 million Kwanzas in administrative expenses.
The connection of these areas to the National Electric Grid will boost economic and social development, strengthen essential services such as healthcare, industry, and education, and stimulate local entrepreneurship.
With the integration of public lighting and the expansion of household connections, these communities now have the opportunity to enjoy better living conditions and increased security.
At the inauguration ceremony, which will include cultural and social activities, the Ministry of Energy and Water, in a gesture of Social Solidarity, will provide a set of sports equipment and various clothing items to the children of both municipalities.
The electrification and connection of Catchiungo and Chinguar to the National Electric Grid is a technical milestone and a symbol of progress and determination that reaffirms the Government’s commitment to building a more sustainable and inclusive future for Angola.
Before this investment, the energy supply to both municipalities relied on generators and thermal power plants, whose installed capacity was insufficient to meet the demand.
