ABC News’ Danny New recently sat down with a Massachusetts resident who has been making headlines for his impressive snowman-building skills. Bob Smith, a 35-year-old father of three, has become somewhat of a local celebrity after constructing a massive 23-foot snowman in his front yard.
The idea to build such a large snowman came to Smith after a particularly heavy snowstorm hit his neighborhood. “My kids were out playing in the snow and they started rolling a small snowball, and before we knew it, it was bigger than all of us!” Smith recalls with a laugh. “That’s when I thought, why not try to make the biggest snowman we possibly can?”
And that’s exactly what Smith did. With the help of his children, neighbors, and even some passersby, Smith worked tirelessly for three days to create the towering snowman. “It was a real community effort,” Smith says. “Everyone was so enthusiastic and eager to help, it was really heartwarming to see.”
But constructing a snowman of this size is no easy feat. Smith had to come up with a plan and strategy to ensure the snowman would stay upright and maintain its shape. “I had to use a ladder and scaffolding to reach the top of the snowman,” Smith explains. “It was definitely a challenge, but I was determined to see it through.”
The end result was a magnificent snowman, complete with a carrot nose, coal eyes and a top hat. The snowman quickly caught the attention of the local community and soon enough, news of the giant snowman spread to national media outlets, including ABC News.
When asked about his reaction to the sudden fame, Smith remains humble and grateful. “I never expected this kind of attention, but it’s been a fun and exciting experience,” he says. “I’m just glad that my family and I could bring some joy and positivity to our community during these difficult times.”
And it’s not just the community that has been uplifted by Smith’s snowman. The news of his creation has also brought smiles to people around the world, with many taking to social media to share their admiration for the impressive snowman.
But for Smith, the real reward comes from seeing the joy on his children’s faces. “They were my biggest helpers and supporters throughout this whole process,” Smith says. “And to see them so proud and happy, that’s all that matters to me.”
Smith plans to keep his snowman standing for as long as possible, and he encourages anyone passing by to stop and take a photo with it. “I hope this snowman can bring a little bit of happiness to everyone who sees it,” he says. “In a year that has been challenging for so many, I’m grateful to have been able to spread some cheer.”
As for the future, Smith says he has no plans to stop building snowmen anytime soon. “Who knows, maybe next year we’ll try to break our own record,” he says with a smile.
With his positive attitude and determination, Bob Smith has become an inspiration for many. His giant snowman serves as a reminder that even in the toughest of times, there is always room for creativity, community spirit, and a little bit of fun. And for that, we thank him.
