Handover of De-mined Area Certificate for the 400 KV Electricity Line Between Huambo and Lubango

On June 7, 2024, in the province of Huíla, specifically in Lubango, a ceremony was held to officially hand over the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango.

This significant event saw the attendance of key officials, including the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, a representative from the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, along with numerous officials from both ministries and other invited guests.

During the ceremony, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their efforts that led to this milestone and shared insights into the broader significance of the occasion.

Minister João Baptista Borges, in his remarks, thanked Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade for his dedication, which played a crucial role in making the event possible. He also highlighted the critical role de-mining plays in advancing the project’s implementation.

He further emphasized that the primary goal is to boost energy capacity to meet regional demands. He praised the ongoing de-mining efforts, noting their pivotal importance for the sector and their role in the success of various electrification initiatives across the country.

João Baptista Borges also pointed out that the project linking Huambo to Lubango will create numerous job opportunities for young people, which he sees as a vital aspect.

The ceremony also included the symbolic presentation of a vehicle to the de-mining team at the site.

Additionally, it was noted that the construction of the 400 kV electricity transmission line between Huambo and Lubango will be divided into two segments, covering a total of 343 kilometers.
