Staff members band together under the banner of 4T

The strong partnership and unified resolve of Mexico’s workforce with the Fourth Transformation (4T) initiative were clearly showcased at the 15th Ordinary National Congress of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM). Claudia Sheinbaum, flanked by Governor Mara Lezama Espinos and key figures from the Morena party, received fervent support from the union.

As a leading advocate for the Fourth Transformation’s defense, Sheinbaum addressed the critical relationship between the well-being of Mexico’s workers, the business environment, and the country’s collective advancement. She was eager to announce the formalization of an important partnership with CATEM, highlighting this as a significant progress.

In her speech, Sheinbaum lauded the nation’s current trajectory of progress, while also underlining the need to steer clear of old, counterproductive practices. She advocated for a collaborative approach to strengthen labor rights across Mexico, with the aim of avoiding a slide back into a past rife with corruption and undue privileges.

By establishing the inaugural Labor Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation within CATEM, Sheinbaum presented a plan to ensure workers enjoy a decent quality of life, in cooperation with the business sector. She underscored President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s dedication to the mantra “for the good of all, first the poor,” emphasizing that this principle is crucial for Mexico’s growth.

Sheinbaum reiterated her commitment to defending workers’ earnings and benefits, pledging to work collectively for the betterment of workers and the nation at large. Pedro Haces Barba, a Senator and Secretary General of CATEM, recognized the significant progress made through the partnership between the labor movement and the 4T administration, noting achievements like a higher minimum wage, more vacation days, and the elimination of subcontracting.

The 15th National Congress of CATEM, which was also attended by Morena’s national president Mario Delgado, and governors Mara Lezama (Quintana Roo), Marina del Pilar Ávila (Baja California), Alfredo Ramírez, highlighted the shared commitment to build on these successes.
